PASSAGES
As I started writing this introduction to my students’ activity, it was a great surprise to realize the coincidence that happened while I was looking for a word to justify or just pick a title for this activity. I was amazed when I came up with the word PASSAGES! Yes, the name of the course book these L8 students have used during the last two years. Why was this ‘the word’? Eighth grade students surely face a nice transition from middle school to high school and this is a kind of ‘starting a new time’ and ‘saying goodbye’ to another. This move to high school means a move to a new building, with new teachers and subjects, and new expectations as well. In addition, the adolescent has to cope with the developmental task of establishing 'a kind of independence' while at the same time maintaining (family) connections. To celebrate this PASSAGE they will also show some of their PASSAGES!!! (Kátia)
