Comparison of Adverbs
a. The formation of comparative of
adverbs
i. Adverbs used with More
Most adverbs used in comparisons,
including those formed from corresponding adjectives by adding the ending ly,
form the comparative with the word more. For example:

| easily | more easily |
| frequently | more frequently |
| slowly | more slowly |
| softly | more softly |
ii. Adverbs used with the endings -er
Adverbs which have the same positive
forms as corresponding adjectives generally also have the same comparative forms
as the corresponding adjectives. For example:
| Positive Form | Comparative Form |
| early | earlier |
| fast | faster |
| high | higher |
| late | later |
| long | longer |
| low | lower |
| near | nearer |
| straight | straighter |

The irregular adverbs have the same comparative form as the corresponding
irregular adjectives:
| Positive Form | Comparative Form |
| badly | worse |
| far | farther or further |
| little | less |
| much | more |
| well | better |
